Human Trafficking is a complex and violent engagement. Survivors of Human Trafficking suffer from long-last effects both physically and mentally.

We know Human Trafficking is

  • a form of psychological, emotional and/or physical violence that is inflicted onto children, teens and/or adults.
  • a crime in which an individual or group uses force, fraud, or coercion to control and exploit victims for the purpose of commercial sex or labor services.
  • a global problem that is also prevalent here in Kern County.
  • a human rights violation
  • a global health concern
  • a social problem that intersects with other systemic issues (e.g. child abuse, homelessness, unethical business practices, etc.)

Potential signs of Human Trafficking

  • poor health
  • drug addiction
  • tattoos (an individuals name will be apparent in severe cases)
  • no freedom of movement or no control of their own schedule
  • no control of one's own money
  • lack of identification
  • false promises of employment conditions
  • work without pay or little pay
  • excessively long and unusual hours or work conditions
  • noticeable change in material items (could be wearing clothing that are ripped and then wearing brand new clothing)
