Volunteer

If you have a heart to serve others, we have a place for you. At The Open Door Network, volunteers play a crucial role in providing compassion and assistance to families working to rebuild their lives.  We welcome any and all people who want to serve.

Whether it’s face to face or behind the scenes, volunteers make an impact in the lives of women and families experiencing homelessness, joblessness, and abuse.

Kitchen Assistants

The Homeless Center Campus prepares and serves hundreds of meals every day to hungry clients and community members.  A friendly face and a smile while serving a meal can go a long way in letting people know that others care about them.  Kitchen Assistant Volunteers work in the kitchen to help prepare and serve nutritious meals.  Other duties include washing dishes, and wiping down tables and chairs as needed.

The Kitchen starts preparing meals at 5:30am daily.  Volunteers may come at any time between 5:30am and 6:30pm and stay as long as they are able.

Volunteers must be 12 years or older to work in the kitchen. Closed toe shoes are required; non-slip soles are recommended.

Donations Sorter

Volunteers work in a warehouse setting to sort and organize clothing, canned goods, and household items that have been donated and prepare food boxes for community members in need. They may also greet and assist people who are dropping off donations.

The Donation Center is open weekdays from 8am-5pm and Saturdays from 8am-4pm.  Volunteers may come for any length of time during that time frame and are asked to spend at least 2 hrs helping.

Internships

For college students needing internship and volunteer credit hours, we can work with you to develop an opportunity to fit your major’s requirements.  We offer internship opportunities in our Champ Camp After-school Program and in our Therapy Services.
